“Freedom From” vs “freedom to”

You and I are not that different.

Allow me to share a quick story with you.

A few years back I was a member in a paid forum related to media buying and performance marketing.

I remember was scrolling through the posts and my eye caught a question asked by another member. It had nothing to do (directly) with digital marketing. That question was…

“Why You Do What You Do Anyway?”

This is a such a simple question. But I found myself pondering over it as the first obvious thing that came to mind was money,

But was it really that or what money enables me to do?

So I took some time to reflect and answer this. I never posted my answer to this question on this forum but here it is…

For me, it was (& still is) the pleasure and joy that gives me the ability to support and provide for my family (without worrying how to pay for food on the table.)

I also love sharing what I learn with like minded people.

For you it might be something else.

What ever it is, it’s important to know it (if you don’t already).

For now, I’m going to assume that you ended up here because you’ve read my story before (& it resonated with you, at least on some level).

And if all of this is true, then we can also assume that you and I are not that different from each other.

So, I’m guessing that your main goal (or at least one of them) right now is to establish some form of “Freedom” for yourself…

…and the first thing we need to do is help you get clear on what kind of freedom you want!

I am going to share with you this concept of the 2 “freedom” states using my good friend’s Darnel Rafaela explanation as I think he does a great job bringing this point home.

“Freedom From” vs “Freedom To”

Let’s talk about 2 specific (& different) forms of “freedom”…

“Freedom From”

A Situation That You’re Not Happy About.

And that can be…

Being stuck with job that you hate, being deep in debt, having an unhealthy (or unsatisfying) lifestyle…

…Not being able to provide (for yourself, or the people you care about), an unwanted living (or health) condition(s) of your loved one(s), or yourself, etc.

Whatever your own personal situation might be…

A clear sign that you’re in a “Hustling for Freedom From (Something)” state is that you’re not happy (& in some cases even frustrated) with your current situation.

And you have a very strong need for change.

The main dangers of being in “Freedom From” state in my experience is that you might be too hungry & even too desperate for things to work.

Which leads to you making a lot of unnecessary & self-destructive mistakes (which are usually unconscious).

You might also suffer from Shiny-Object-Syndrome while in this state.

And from my observation & experience, I believe the majority of affiliates in this scene remain stuck in this state.

In fact, the whole marketing ecosystem (of forums, courses, “bonus deals” between networks, traffic sources & services, etc) is built to keep (most of) us in this state.

The other state is …

“Freedom To”

Pursue (& Maintain) a Situation That Makes You Happy.

And that can be – Earning a certain amount of passive income per month (or week, or even day)…

Being able to treat & take care of the ones you love (and/or yourself).

Being location independent & being able traveling without having to worry about the cost of living.

Being debt free or even being able to pay off the debt of others, or even sponsor people.

And last but not least, enjoying the finer things in life, etc.

What’s important to note here is that if you’re in a “Hustling for Freedom To (Do Something)” state, then you must also have (already had) a clear taste (even if it’s a small one) of the situations you want more of.

I highly recommend taking some time and think on your current state.

Get as much clarity on this as possible before you go on to what ever it is you’re working currently.
